Signs of Autism
Signs of Autism include problems in three crucial areas of development — social interaction, language and behavior.
Autistic children suffer from a neurological developmental disorder that affects their ability to socialize normally, impairs language skills, restricts their interests and curiosity and causes other behavioral abnormalities.
It is probably caused by organically based central nervous system dysfunction, especially in the ability to process social or emotional information or language. It is estimated that 1 in every 150 to 175 American children is identified as having this disorder, but this rate is rising. Medical treatment of this condition has been minimally effective.
Studies have shown levels of the antioxidant glutathione are typically about 50 percent lower in children with signs of Autism. It is known that some children with signs of Autism are poor detoxifiers relative to normally developing children, and in particular, have trouble excreting toxic metals.
Scientists in Texas have completed a pilot study looking into whether or not a whey protein isolate ingredient could lessen Autism symptoms by raising Glutathione levels in the brain. Ten children, 3-15 years of age with a signs of Autism, were supplemented with a non-denatured whey protein isolate.
The study results were so successful that it has now entered Phase II studies.
According to Immunotec Research, bonded cysteines found in certain whey protein isolates serve as building blocks for Glutathione, a naturally-occurring protein in our bodies, which is responsible for a number of functions including removing or neutralizing dangerous substances we are exposed to on a daily basis.
There is now an increasing amount of clinical evidence that raising Glutathione levels helps autistic people, over the years.
